Sponsored Trips

Most of our trips are open to the public–but LIST members get the first crack if tickets are limited.
Also, members will be able to purchase tickets at a reduced price.

In the past, the Chapter has sponsored rail trips around Long Island and elsewhere in the Metropolitan New York area. Some of the most famous trips have been those to the Long Island Rail Road facilities, dinner trips to Montauk and Greenport, and off-island trips on LIRR trains or Metro-North to such distant points such as Danbury, Norwalk, and Waterbury Connecticut, and to Grand Central Terminal, Poughkeepsie and Harmon Yards in New York. Photo run-bys take place and food service is usually arranged.

CHAPTER TRIPS

Saturday, May 18, 2024 - Danbury Railway Museum

Danbury Railway Museum

We have scheduled a tour of the Danbury Railway Museum on Saturday May 18, 2024.  We will be meeting at Grand Central Terminal and taking an 11:02 AM train to Danbury with a change at South Norwalk, arriving in Danbury at 1:11 PM.  Our return trip departs Danbury at 4:33 PM and, after a change at South Norwalk, we arrive back at Grand Central at 6:49 PM.  You have to make your own travel arrangements to and from Grand Central.

We will have a train ride in the yard at 2 PM, as well as a yard tour.  There are over 75 pieces of rolling stock at the museum, including ex-LIRR ALCO FA-1 #617, as well as the 20th Century Limited observation/lounge/sleeping car Tonawanda.

If you are interested in going, please contact LIST Trip Chairman Bob Grant.  He can be reached by email (gorailroading2018@gmail.com) or phone (917-327-5151).

If enough people sign up for the trip we will be able to take advantage of Metro-North’s Group Fare.  We are also working on a special admission price to the Museum-the more people who sign up, the lower the admission price will be.
